Digital C-Print Service Policies and Instructions

The Digital C-Print Service will be operated in a "Print Service" manner. This service only runs Monday though Friday. There will be no printing on weekends.
Students will submit files by 10:00 am on a print station in room 002 and they will be printed by Bergen hall staff and then be ready to be picked up the same day at the cave at 6:00pm.
The deadline for Fall Quarter for submitting prints to the Digital C-Print Service will be Wednesday, March 7th at 11:59pm. No files will be printed after this time.
If your files are larger than 16x20” you may only submit 10 files per day.
***Any order over 10 - 16x20” images takes extra time to print and will not always be ready within one day.***
Two types of paper surfaces will be available: Kodak Luster and Matte. Monday-Wednesday will be Luster print days. Thursday-Friday will be Matte print days.
Payment
A $30 usage fee must be paid to use this service. This entitles you to 20 feet of 30 inch paper per quarter. (20 feet equals about 65 - 8x10s or 40 - 11x14s or 10 - 16x20s) This fee may be paid more than once, if the student uses up their original 20 foot allotment. You can pay this fee in a few different ways:
- Go to Turner House express office and get a receipt and put in the receipt drop box next to the cave in the basement of Bergen Hall.
- Go to The Bursar's office at Bradley Hall and get a receipt and put in the receipt drop box next to the cave in the basement of Bergen Hall.
***Students must have a receipt of payment to use the Digital C-Print Service***
***At this time this fee cannot be paid online***
For instructions on how to use the Digital C-Print Service please see below:
Using the Digital C-Print Service
The Digital C-Print station is located in room 002 in the basement of Bergen hall.
Directions
In Photoshop complete the following steps
1. Flatten your image (No layers or channels)
2. Convert it to 8-bit color mode
3. Make sure it is in the Adobe RGB (1998) color space.
4. The resolution must be set at 300 ppi
5. Image must be sized for the final print size.
* Example: If you want an 11x14” print, you need to size it to
11x14" with a resolution of 300 ppi.
*Maxiumum height or width must be 30 inches or less.
6. Save your file only as a .jpg file.
*Your file name can only be up to 10 characters
long. Use only letters or numbers in your
filename. No other characters (!@#$%^&:”*()_+)
( example mydog123.jpg or my dog 123.jpg )
7. Create a folder named with your first and last name,
drag your images into it, and then drag the folder
into the “Mac Hot Folder” on the desktop.
***Images that are not contained in a folder
with a student’s name will not be printed***
After you have finished putting your files in the
Mac Hot Folder:
Your images will be printed once during the day, and as long as they are submitted before 10:00am, they will be ready to be picked up the same day at the cave at 6:00pm.
If your files are larger than 16x20” you may only submit 10 files per day.
Any order over 10 - 16x20” images takes extra time to print and will not always be ready
within one day.
Suggested Workflow for the Digital C-Print Service
If a student wanted to print 10 - 16x20s. That student could submit 10 test strips sized at 3x20” and only use up 30 inches of paper instead of using up over 160 inches of paper, which is nearly half of their allotment for the quarter.
To do this a student would just select in Photoshop a 3x20” section of their 16x20” image and make a new document and save it as a new .jpg file and then submit it for printing.

General Information
Safety
Material Safety Data Sheets ( MSDS) for all chemicals used and/or provided by the SCAD photography department are on file in The Cave and are available for reference at any time. Although the Sprint Systems of Photography chemistry is hypoallergenic, it is recommended that students provide and wear safety gear. This may include an apron or lab coat to protect clothes and skin; safety glasses or goggles to protect eyes; and disposable latex gloves to protect hands.
Students should learn and know where the emergency exits and stairwells are located. If unsure, students may ask faculty or staff members. In the event of a fire or fire alarm, students must leave the lab or classroom, proceed to the nearest exit and evacuate the building immediately. Do not ride the elevator.
Lab Fees
A lab fee of $75 applies for all wet classes and inkjet printing classes. No lab fee is required for commercial lighting classes, alternative processes, history of photography courses and digital scanning sections. Payments must be made at the Turner Express Office, 302 W. Boundary St. (912 525-8440), or at Bradley Hall, room 125. They accept payments of cash, personal checks, debit cards, credits cards and SCAD Cards. The $30.00 Digital RA-4 output machine fee can be paid more than once if you need more than 25 feet of paper. Please drop the receipt for this fee in the “receipt drop box” to be able to use this printer. Under any circumstances Lab fees cannot be refunded.
Late Fees
All late fees for late returns or misuse of gear and/or space will be charged to the student’s account. All fees are to be paid at Turner Express Office, 302 W. Boundry St. (912 525-8440) or Bradley Hall room 125. Once the fee is paid, your receipt must be dropped in the “receipt drop box” next to the cave so your fee can be removed.
Lockers
Only photography majors or minors who have already completed Foundations to Photography (Phot 101) are eligible to be assigned a locker. Students may retain their assigned lockers until graduation. Students must provide their own padlocks. Lockers may be requested in the operations office (Room 205) during regular business hours.
Lost and Found
Lost and found is located in The Cave. Students may ask the monitor on duty for assistance.
Liability
The SCAD photography department cannot be held responsible for items left in the labs. Students must remember to take their prints, negatives and related equipment with them. Students may not keep prints on the drying screens for longer than 24 hours. Students may not store personal items in any of the labs during breaks or overnight.
Photography department work-study monitors are always on duty to provide assistance. Students are encouraged to ask a monitor if they have any problems or questions. The photography department operations staff is also available during normal business hours to assist students.
Gear Usage
All use of Photography Department equipment and facilities is limited to class assignment work only. Students are prohibited from using Photography Department equipment or facilities for commercial work or other paying jobs.
Lab Rules
· Students may not check out equipment unless they have a valid SCAD ID (no driver’s licenses, credit cards, etc.) and have paid their proper lab fees.
· Lab and building hours are posted throughout the building.
· Read “The Bergen” bulletin board or blog frequently (www.thebergen.blogspot.com). The bulletin board next to The Cave is for department announcements and lab information only. Any changes in building hours, policy and procedures are posted. Students are responsible for being familiar with any and all posted information.
· Return all equipment ON TIME. All equipment (including contact printing frames, trays, etc.) should be returned at the posted time (usually 30 minutes before the building closes) so the monitor has time to clean up.
· All toning is to be done only under the toning hoods, in the film processing area. Exhausted toners must be poured into the yellow five-gallon buckets. These are located underneath the sinks at each toning station.
· Inkjet printers, Digital output machine and darkrooms are for schoolwork only. There is no personal printing or printing for friends aloud. Failure to follow this rule will result in expulsion from all labs in Bergen.
· Clean up after yourself! There is a $20 service charge if a monitor or staff member has to clean up a student’s mess.
· Students are 100% responsible for all equipment they use. All equipment must be turned in dry, clean and in the same condition in which it was received.
Lack of planning on the part of the student
does not constitute an emergency
on the part of the photography department.
